GNU Labs at MES College of Engineering, Kuttippuram, Kerala, kicks off

The activities of GNU Labs, a free software-based volunteer project, began at the MES College of Engineering, Kuttippuram, on Friday, December 5, 2008, with a day-long workshop.

GNU Labs encourages the idea of sharing knowledge, supporting the ideals of the Free Software Foundation. It aims at improving the existing work of free software by helping students to complete their curricular project works.

Candle light vigil against Software Patents (In front of Town Hall near Corporation Circle, Bangalore, from Aug 23, 2008 05:30 PM to Aug 23, 2008 07:00 PM): A campaign to stop the introduction of Software Patents in India. Software patents are rejected by Indian Parliament in 2005 (Patent Amendment bill 2005). But Indian Government is now trying to push it through back door by bringing a Patent manual. Public consultations on this draft manual is going on in various metros in India. Bangalore Consultation is scheduled for the last week of August.
